MotoGP: Jack Miller Dominates to Top Spot in FP1

Pramac Ducati’s Jack Miller has started the European Grand Prix weekend in the best way, topping the first free practice session of the weekend by over four tenths.
Jack Miller dominated the first free practice session of the weekend, pulling four tenths clear of Franco Morbidelli in second and half a second clear of Stefan Bradl in third. Miller, who set his best lap of a 1:42.063 on lap eight, mastered the tricky Valencian conditions to take top spot, and control ahead of this afternoons second session.
Franco Morbidelli and Stefan Bradl had a strong morning session with Johann Zarco and Alex Marquez making it two Ducatis and two Hondas inside the top five.
Danilo Petrucci knows how to win in the wet and had a promising start to the weekend, however, conditions are expected to improve as the weekend goes on, can the Italian continue his form from FP1?
Pol Espargaro and Miguel Oliveira were seventh and eighth fastest onboard their KTM machines, just over eight tenths off Miller’s top time.
Andrea Dovizioso and Maverick Viñales completed the top ten with Teruel polesitter Takaaki Nakagami in 11th, 1.1s off the pace.
Aleix Espargaro, Alex Rins, Francesco Bagnaia and Brad Binder completed the top 15 while MotoGPs newest recruit, Garrett Gerloff finished an impressive debut session in 16th.
The American finished the first 45-minute session 1.5s off the pace, completing 21 laps aboard his YZR-M1.
Championship leader Joan Mir had a quiet opening session, finishing down in 17th place and spent a lot of the session picking up his Suzuki and running into the gravel, aiming to avoid the mistake Bagnaia and Marquez made earlier in the session.
The injured Cal Crutchlow finished the morning session in 18th ahead of Tito Rabat and Bradley Smith’s replacement Lorenzo Savadori.
Fabio Quartararo, uncharacteristically brought up the rear in 21st place and looked visibly frustrated with his PETRONAS YZR-M1 following a near-crash at turn 2 in the closing stages.
MotoGP returns this afternoon for the second and final session of the day, can Miller hang on to the top spot?
