BSB: Will Honda Racing’s Newest Protégé Ryo Mizuno Follow In Ryuichi Kiyonari’s Foot Steps For His Debut Season In Bennetts British Superbikes.

By Dawn Hammersley
Japanese Rider Ryo Mizuno will Compete In His First Season On British Soil For Honda Racing along-side Glenn Irwin.
Honda Racing will be hoping to repeat the success with 22-year-old Ryo Mizuno that they had with fellow country man Ryuichi Kiyonari. Honda won three championships with Kiyonari out of his seven seasons with them; racking up an impressive total of 43 wins for Honda.

Ryo has had previous championship success winning the All-Japan J-GP3 Championship in 2015 and the All-Japan J-GP2 Championship in 2017. He has made appearances in the The Moto2 and Moto3 Grand Prix Championships. In 2019 he took part in the Suzuka 8 Hours and put in some impressive lap times finishing in seventh place in the standings for the works-backed MuSASHI RT HARC_PRO Team.

Both Honda riders took part in testing at Portimao back in November, both riders and team came back to England with positive feed back from the testing, Ryo shadowed Glenn for numerous laps around the Portuguese circuit getting to grips with the Honda Fireblade again.

Team Manager Havier Beltran is excited to see what Ryo can do for the team as Honda have a very good track record with Japanese riders.
Havier Beltran-Honda UK Team Manager
Kiyo won the title three times with us and Ryo brings a huge amount of experience and also talent with him. His lap times at the Suzuka 8 Hour last year were impressive and althuogh the British circuits are very different, I think he will enjoy them and be competitive on the Fireblade SP.
Ryo Mizuno-Honda UK Rider
I’m really looking forward to this new challenge, signing a deal with Honda Racing UK Team to ride the new CBR 1000RR-R Fireblade SP in the british Championship. Thanks to all my family, friends and personal sponsors. I can’t wait to get started and hope to have a lot of success in front of our fans this year.
