Formula 1: Hamilton Tops FP2 in a Temporarily Red-Flagged Session
The session was temporarily halted with around 20 minutes remaining as Carlos Sainz Jr. loses control of his Ferrari in the Ascari chicane.
Free Practice comes to a close with Lewis Hamilton topping the timesheets once again, leading Bottas to a Mercedes 1-2. Behind the Silver Arrows sit the Red Bulls, where Verstappen sealed the top three and Perez found the pace he desperately needed to finish fourth.
The first driver outside the 1 second margin today is Esteban Ocon, while the Alfa Romeos split the Alpines of Ocon and Alonso with Kubica taking an impressive sixth ahead of Giovinazzi behind him. Sitting ninth is Monza’s latest winner Pierre Gasly, who continues his consistent form he has managed all season, and finally Lando Norris rounding off the top ten.
Neither Ferrari cars broke into the top ten today, as Leclerc is reportedly unwell and has been taken to the medical center after finishing 11th in the session. Carlos Sainz meanwhile suffered a heavy shunt before getting the chance to set a competitive time, ending last overall and needing the car to be repaired on time for the Sprint.
The Aston Martins have oddly gone backwards as the weekend progressed, after Stroll and Vettel ended the first practice 4th and 6th respectively, they eventually got eliminated in Q2 and today ended the final practice in 17th and 18th between the Haas duo of Mazepin and Schumacher.
