WSSP: Strong Progress at Donington Park for Tom Edwards and YART.

By Dawn Hammersley
Tom Edwards and YART leave Donington Park with extra Championship points.
Tom Edwards and the YART Team round out the weekend with a few extra world championship points, finishing with a solid P14 in both race one and race two.
A lot of positives can be taken for the team this weekend, learning another new track on the calendar and Tom testing out the 600 in the wet for the first time.
Free practice one was off to a good start, Tom was adapting well to the track and making good times. But that ultimately ended on a flying lap after hitting a wet patch on the track at turn five, causing a huge high side.
Tom luckily avoided any major injuries with only a small graze on his inner thigh and a nasty bruise to show for it.
The team showed their mechanical strength, completely rebuilding the bike in time to take the track for free practice two. Tom was one of few riders braving the wet conditions, but it was valuable experience for the young rider being his first time on the 600 in the wet.

I was happy to finally get some practice in the wet. I felt really comfortable, and we were getting a good pace from the start which was good,
The team qualified P16, only three positions behind his top competitor in the World SuperSport Challenge, Tom Booth Amos, whose home round it was.
I was happy with our qualifying considering it’s a new track for us. It put us in a good position to fight for championship points.
Tom and the YART team fought a strong battle in both races to finish the weekend with another 4 World SuperSport points under their belt.
They’ve shown strong improvement round to round so far this year in their rookie season, battling against big names in the paddocks.
I’m really happy with the progress we’re making as a team. Each round, we learn more and more. We just need to keep at it.
Next up for Tom and YART is Imola 14 – 16 July.
