BTC: The First Ever Spanish Round of the R&G British Talent Cup Delivered a Triple Thriller.
By Short Shift News
The R&G triple header gave us three very different results, culminating into the best races over BSB MSVR Spanish weekend.
By Ed Lewis.
Whatever fans debated regarding the new location of Circuito Navarro in Sunny – sometimes biting cold northern Spain, the Young BTC matadors certainly gave the BSB faithful traveling fans something to write home about. Three races – three different winners, the pace was breath taking. All the Short shift News office predictions were blown into the Spanish wind.
Race 1:
New track and foreign environment? American Julian Correa (Microlise Creswell) didn’t notice as he set the early blistering pace during qualifying and race one leading from pole position with Lucas Brown (SENCAT Mortimer Racing) and Filip Sorowiak ( RS racing) right under his shadow. Spanish based Brit and bookies favourite seemed in shock that the front trio dared to take over his territory, On lap 9 his frustration got the better as he lunged into Sorowiak at turn nine also taking the very impressive rookie Mason Foster (BRP Racing) for a trip to the track side beach. Brinton earned himself a visit to the MSVR headmaster Stuart Higgs and subsequently slapped with 3 penalty points on his licence. Correa and Brown continued the hectic battle up front and on the final drag to the chequered flag it was Correa who had the edge on speed making him the first American to win an R&G BTC race. 18 seconds behind Ryan Frost (Fibre Tech) took his first ever well-deserved series podium in 3rd position. Clayton Edmonds (RS Racing) rode superbly in 4th.
Race 2:
A super entertaining five way scrap between Brown, Correa, Sorowiak, Brinton and Foster was red flagged on lap five as Josh Banister high sided at turn one. The five-way battle continued throughout the eight lap restart, Correa and Brinton took the charge to the finish line with Brinton elbows out locking handlebars with his American rival which allowed Young Polish star Filip Sorowiak to snatch the win. Brown was 4th down on power and Foster again showing he’s a challenger in 5th.
Race 3:
If we thought the action couldn’t get better, how wrong we were. A copy and paste repeat of race two began with the same five riders exchanging the lead corner by corner, Lucas Brown seemed to have found that missing horse power after race two and looked smooth and confident showing us he’s an unexpected title challenger in 2024. Correa`s Microlise Honda lost power on Lap eight (DNF). Brinton took over and looked like he had the race in the bag at the final corner only for Brown to make the move of the event to slip up the inside and power his Sencat Honda over the line and take his first ever R&G BTC win. Mason Foster took his first step on the podium in a fine 3rd position.
As we drew breath after the incredible display of skill over the three races who could choose a winner of the overall rider of the event? After some debate we narrowly awarded the SSN- R&G Award to the championship leader Lucas Brown, The 15 year old from Bolney in West Sussex was a class above in Navarra. If we could have a split decision Mason Foster take an award- superb on his Honda NSF 250 debut, remember this young man’s name.
