If we thought the action couldn’t get any hotter, the R&G British Talent Cup served some of the best ever racing ever seen on UK tarmac.

By Ed Lewis.

It was that man Lucas Brown (SENCAT Talent team Mortimer Racing) that was to set the pace in Free Practice and Qualifying producing the Bolney boys first ever career pole position in the stifling Friday heat. Excessive track temperatures prevented lap record times, Brown was just under Evan Belford’s out right lap record by 0.348 of a second, if Manny Brinton (RS Racing) had an answer to that – he was keeping under his sun hat, 0.820 on Browns back foot.

Race 1: Brown made an unusually slow start from pole, Ryan Frost (Fibre Tech Honda) took the hole shot with Filip Surowiak (RS Racing) Julian Correa (Wilson racing)and Amanuel Brinton also taking full advantage. Brown was having none of it as he neatly carved his way through the front pack we saw what must be the pass of the year through West Fields- up the inside taking the lead with an incredible three for one move. The freight train continued with the fast pace of Frost`s NSF scrapping with the late smooth braking of the Mortimer Racing rider Brown. Harrison Mackay (Wilson Racing) stepped up to join the party with Harley McCabe McCabe Racing) looking on from sixth position. As per Snetterton Browns front looked planted showing BSB team managers he’s hot property. A spectacular last lap display of rapid non-contact Moto3 racing saw Brown out dragged by Frost who pulled four bike lengths without the slipstream to take the win. A photo finish awarded Surowiak the runner up placing. Brinton took a very close fourth in the finish.

Race 2: Started with a dramatic problem for Clayton Edmonds, his team worked hard to unleash a chain issue in pit lane. Brinton on pole commanded the four way race long battle which once again gave us a breath taking lap record breaking race. Mackay again watched and learnt from fifth place, it won’t be long until the Lincolnshire lad steps on that podium. No one could match the corner speed of Brown into paddock hill bend lap after lap. But once again Brinton was able to win the drag race to victory – classic last lap brands hatch.

Lucas Brown still leads the championship by 22 points as we head next to circuits with shorter drag factors to the chequered flag, it will be fascinating.

The R&G Rider of the weekend goes unanimously to Harrison Mackay who stepped up to hassle the front pack with style, unfortunately the youngster missed his pit board and the last lap flag preventing an all-out final attack, disappointing for him, but he showed us he’s ready to make his mark on the series.
