Moto2: Dixon Takes Victory On Home Soil At Silverstone!

Aspar Rider Jake Dixon Stalks Aron Canet Until a Last Lap Manoeuver Masterclass to Take the Win.

For the British Grand Prix the Japanese rider Ai Ogura lined up from pole position with a new circuit record of 2.02.940, along side him on the grid is the Fantic Racing machine piloted by Aron Canet and rounding out the front row is the Moto2 rookie Diogo Moreira. British rider Jake Dixon sits on the middle of row two in fifth.

A rocket start for the MT helmets rider Ai Ogura creating a gap to the rest of the field into turn one, American rider Joe Roberts looking menacing making moves forward’s from his grid position to the front early on, As Canet attacks Vietti into Copse, Marc VDS’s Tony Arbolino was pushed wide by Jake Dixon to progress to third position at the end of lap one.

American Racing’s Roberts is keen to make his way forward early on making passes and looking aggressive as Fantic Racing’s Aron Canet makes the pass and takes the lead from Ai Ogura closely followed by Dixon.

Britain’s Jake Dixon tries a move on Ogura but runs wide looking Jake obviously means business and is looking aggressive and on form, He makes a move stick on Ogura and moves into second place to try bridge the gap to the leader.

Canet looking smooth and eeks out a slight lead, whilst a crash puts Jaume Masia out of the race on the exit of Chapel before the Hangar straight.

American racing rider Joe Roberts moved past the MT Helmets rider but Ogura lunges back past and makes it stick to hold third position for now.

Canet still looking flawless at the front getting into a rhythm and extending his lead ever so slightly over Dixon in second and Ogura trying desperately to hold a podium position closely followed by Roberts.

Tony Arbolino crashes out at Brooklands after making a mistake and missing a gear and running into the gravel he re-joins the race but is out of contention for any result he would of hoped for.

Joe Roberts through on Ogura but the Japanese rider fights back into Brooklands, fantastic battling between the two and the Moto 2 rookie Diogo Moreira lurking close behind looking for any potential gap.

Roberts tries another passing manoeuvre and is back through on Ogura using a tight line at Stowe and finally makes it stick for a podium position.

Aspar’s Jake Dixon now closing the gap to the leader and makes a lunge on Canet but runs wide and Canet returns the favour and comes back through

Moreira crashes out loosing the front at Brooklands after such a position start for the rookie.

The leaders now have a one second lead over the rest of the field after exciting few laps of the race.

Ogura was struggling to hold the pace of Roberts and loosing the tow as Joe tries to reel in the two leaders but unfortunately crashes out pushing on after setting a lap time half a second quicker than his rivals leading the race.

Canet and Dixon now 3.6 seconds over Albert Arenas who moved passed Ogura into third, Ogura now at the front of a five bike freight train.

Championship leader Sergio Garcia way down in 24th position from the start but fighting through the pack, making good progress back up to ninth with just nine laps to go.

Manuel Gonzalez putting in some solid laps to bridge the gap to his Gresini team mate Arenas and makes a move into turn four The Loop and makes it stick up to putting him now in podium contention.

Mario Aji crashed out with a nasty looking Highside into exiting Luffields into Woodcote rider up and ok.

Canet and Dixon now six seconds clear at the front of the field just clicking of the laps with Dixon stalking Canet for that maiden home Grand Prix win.

Ai Ogura seemed to be struggling with pace as he is now down to ninth after such a dominant qualifying session.

Dixon now right with the fellow Kalex rider Canet with nothing separating with six laps to go, the Fantic Racing rider looking smooth and conformable leading with no signs of cracking under the pressure from the British rider in second.

Championship leader Garcia is working hard and having to fight for every point as Red Bull KTM’s Vietti threatens to make a pass.

Both leaders looked incredibly smooth not stressing those Pirelli tyres more than needed, as tyre wear is going to play a part in the final laps on this flowing circuit.

Garcia now up to fourth now a phenomenal ride from being punted wide and down in 24th into turn one at the start of the race.

Dixon makes a slight mistake and runs wide at turn Abbey corner, maybe this is a sign the tyres are starting to struggle with three laps to go he is pushing hard on those Pirelli tyres.

Ai Ogura is really struggling to hold pace and is now back to 13th position so Garcia will extend his championship lead further who is now onto the podium position with a move into Abbey demoting the Italian to fourth but Vietti tries to get the run on Garcia towards Copse but a massive speed wobble slows his run and he sits back behind Garcia in fourth. Vietti doesnt want to settle behind and moves back into third place into Stowe corner.

Dixon makes his move for the lead into turn one at the start pf the last lap, Canet didnt seem to be expecting it as he looked startled by Dixon.

Jake put together the lap of his life putting some time between himself and the Spanish rider with half a lap to go Dixon looking strong and pulling away. Canet has been strong in the final sector of the race and tried to use the slip stream down the Hangar Straight but the Aspar Rider goes defensive blocking any move into the final chicane and holds the lead to the line Dixon won on home soil after a perfect last lap masterclass.

Red Bull KTM Ajo ruder Celestino Vietti completes the podium in third followed by a fantastic ride by championship leader Sergio Garcia in fourth and Manuel Gonzales completing the top five.
