Free practice and qualifying where over dominated by our championship leader Lucas Brown (SENCAT Talent Team Mortimer Racing). Brown topped all non-race sessions of the weekend with and set an unofficial lap record pole position of 1.46.372.
Saturday race day one was a sun drenched affair – as with the rest of the event the unexpected happened. Pole sitter Brown had an almighty high side at cascades which remarkably he hung on to dropping him out in the wilderness- the hungry pack pounced and took full advantage. Julian Correa (Microlise Racing) hit the front and looked in command but the rapid Honda NSF of Ryan Frost (Fibre Tec Honda) was having none of it as the usual suspects were nose to tail throughout the race with Brown making a superb recovery to hit the front by mid stage. Amanuel Brinton (RS Racing) continued to struggle with settings and drifted back into the second pack. On the final two laps Frost and Correa made the stunning important break from Brown and that was our 1-2-3 for the podium.
Overnight Oulton Park woke up to a tropical environment with a wet race 2 delayed and reduced to 10 laps. Ryan Frost stormed to an early lead taking the impressive Filip Surowiak (RS racing) with him. Brown held back to let the front runners settle but on lap four Ronnie Harris lost the rear of his RS Honda on the exit to Britten`s chicane taking the faultless Brown out of proceedings. Harley McCabe (Fibre Tec Honda) got in the mix, while Brinton showed us he’s got some pace in the wet. Frost took a three second penalty for an ambitious move that took out Charlie Barnes (SENCAT Talent Team Mortimer Racing) at Hislops allowing American Julian Correa his second win of the year.
Championship leader Lucas Brown now has a tougher job on his hands as we move on to the final triple header event on the R&G BTC calendar, with a reduced 28 point gap can he keep his young head to take the tittle cup? Hold on to your seats!!
