WSBK: Danilo Petrucci takes the Super Pole Race Victory.
By Zach Curtis
After securing his first ever WSBK victory in race 1 at Cremona, Barni Spark Racing’s Danilo Petrucci made it two wins from two races in this mornings Super-pole race aboard his Ducati.
After starting from sixth on the grid yesterday, The Italian’s job was made slightly easier today with no grid penalty to hinder him and therefore started from third place.
Petrucci was already into the lead at the first corner and after setting the fastest lap of the race built a steady lead to impressively take victory by 1.7 seconds at the end of the 10 lap Superpole race.
Completing the podium were two riders who bounced back after suffering crashes in race one, Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK), and Andrea Iannone Team (GoEleven Ducati) taking the wthird spot on the podium. Race 1’s podium finishing duo; Nicolo Bulega and Alvaro Bautista (both racing for Aruba Ducati) finished in fourth and sixth place, split by Honda’s Iker Lecuona who achieved his fifth consecutive top 10 finish and is showing significant signs of optimism for Honda’s 2025 ambitions.
Completing the nine point scoring finishers were Andrea Locatelli, Lecuona’s team mate Xavi Vierge and Garret Gerloff. Frustratingly just outside the points, Tito Rabat scored his best WSBK result since 2021, the Spaniard lost a huge opportunity for points in race one as he crashed out on the opening lap but delivered a 10th place finish in the Superpole race and will be confident of points in race two this afternoon if he can stay up right.
British trio Scott Redding, Sam Lowes and Bradley ray finished 13th, 14th and 15th, just behind Axel Bassani and Michael Van der Mark. Fellow Brits Tommy Bridewell and Tarran Mackenzie came home 21st and 23rd, with Mackenzie remounting after suffering a crash at turn 2 on the second lap.
