WSBK: Bulega Denies Toprak a Trio of Victories in The Czech Republic.

By Zach Curtis
Toprak and Nicolo Bulega battled it out at Most, Bulega wasn’t giving up on a victory.
After dominating the opening two races of the weekend, Toprak Razgatioglu looked certain to complete a perfect hat-trick – however championship leader, Bulega thwarted the Turk’s plans and after a race long duel secured his eighth win of the season to lead Razgatioglu 8-6 in victories this season and more importantly keep in tact his 31 point lead in the standings as he bids to become the first Italian WSBK champion since Max Biaggi, who won the crown in 2010 and 2012.
Danilo Petrucci enjoyed his strongest weekend of the season to take a hattrick of podiums, finishing a distant third place in all three races to move into third place in the championship.
Alvaro Bautista slips to fourth place in the championship after only finishing fifth in the opening two races before being one of the victims of an over ambitious Jonathan Rea on the opening lap of race three.
Lowes’ twins Sam and Alex both had excellent weekends with Sam finishing 6th in the opening race before rising to 4th in both of Sundays races while Alex a strong 4th and 7th before similarly to Bautista being an innocent victim of Rea in race one and could only recover to 15th.
Andrea Iannone remains on 68 points and has dropped to 8th in the championship after a crash in FP1 saw him declared unfit for the remainder of the weekend with fractures in his right foot. Factory Honda duo Iker Lecuona and Xavi Vierge both had positive weekends with Lecuona bringing home a pair of 7th places, sandwiched with a 6th place while Vierge finished 9th and 8th before crashing in race three.
The above mentioned Rea, claimed his first top 10 results of the season as he battles back from injury with 10th in Race one & two before running as high as 5th in race three – although the Northern Irishman’s race was scuppered by a double long lap for an incident on the first lap which saw him eventually cross the finish line in 13th. In a disappointing weekend for Yamaha, Rea’s teammate Andrea Locatelli could only bring home a pair of 9th places from the weekend.
Kawasaki had their best weekend of the season with lone rider Garret Gerloff achieving his first top 10 of the season in race three, this was after finishing 11th and 12th in the opening races. British riders Ryan Vickers and Tarran Mackenzie both left the Czech Republic without points, while Scott Redding could only manage two 14th places and a 12th in a lacklustre weekend for the Gloucestershire man.
