EWC: Suzuka 8 Hour postponed as Estoril takes July date

By Short Shift News
The Suzuka 8 hours has been delayed in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which forced the cancellation of the iconic event 12 months ago. The Portuguese round of the EWC series has instead been brought forward to fill the previous Japanese date, with Suzuka being postponed until November.
The Suzuka 8 Hour has officially been delayed until November as Japan continues to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The iconic event will now take place in November (7th) as it swaps its July date with Estoril, originally planned to take place on the 16th, October.
The Suzuka 8 hour will host the EWC series’s finale and offer 150% points for the finishers. Last year’s season finale was a classic, with YART Yamaha dominating proceedings, having taken control after an early fall for the BMW Motorrad team in Peter Hickman’s hands.
François Ribeiro – Eurosport Events
“We suggested to the organizers of the Suzuka Eight-Hours and the 12 Hours of Estoril that they switch their dates for the good of the championship and to make it easier for teams to travel to Japan.
“In the coming months, it will still be hard to have a clear idea regarding travel management and public attendance at the circuits. The 2021 season will be an excellent one with an opening race at Le Mans and a grand finale at Suzuka to decide the title.”
