Peter Hickman Left It To The Final Seconds To Top The Time Sheet In The First Session Of Round Seven At Snetterton.
At the Norfolk Circuit of Snetterton the weather for the Bennetts British Superbike’s first session of the day was cloudy but dry. RICH Energy OMG Racing’s Kyle Ryde has been passed fit to ride this weekend after his off at Cadwell Park during a testing session. Rapid CDH Racing’s Josh Owens makes his return to racing this weekend after being out of action due to an injury. Luke Stapleford is standing in for injured Buildbase Suzuki’s rider Danny Kent.
As the first session of the day got under-way it was Honda’s Glenn Irwin leading the way, with Peter Hickman in second place and Ducati’s Tommy Bridewell in third. After five laps in Bridewell snatched first place from Glenn Irwin, that was short lived as McAMS Yamaha’s Tarran Mackenzie went into first place, team-mate Jason O’Halloran was in fifth place.
At the half-way mark of the session reigning 2020 Superbike Champion Josh Brookes took the top spot, team-mate Christian Iddon was in tenth place. There was just 0.036s between Brookes and second place man Tarran Mackenzie, O’Halloran was on the charge for a first place position but just missed out on the top spot due to losing time at the final sector of the circuit.
With eight minutes to go O’Halloran did his best lap and got into the all-important first place, team-mates Lee Jackson and Rory Skinner were in eighth and ninth place respectively. Buildbase Suzuki’s Gino Rea got into tenth place, Ryan Vickers was down 12th place.
At the checkered flag it was FHO Racing BMW’s Peter Hickman who topped the time sheets with literally seconds to go! Ryan Vickers also put a late flying lap in and finished in second place, O’Halloran was in third place, Josh Brookes in a strong fourth place, Mackenzie finished in fifth, Gino Rea rounded out the top ten in tenth place.
Peter Hickman is yet again showing his determination to keep himself in a Showdown position, will he dominate the Free Practice Two session this afternoon at 16:15?
