Izan Guevara Held off Deniz Öncü to Win his Seventh Race of the 2022 Season, and Winning his Fourth Race on Spanish Soil.

It was perfect weather conditions at the Gran Premio Motul de La Comunitat Valencia for the final Moto3 race of the 2022 season. Newly crowned Moto3 champion Izan Guevara was on pole position, Tech 3 KTM’s Deniz Öncü was in second place with Sergio Garcia rounding out the front row in third place.

Lights out for the final time this season, Izan Guevara got the holeshot into turn one. A few riders ran wide at the first turn, Guevara got a lightening start to lead the race. Deniz Öncü held onto second place with Garcia holding onto to third place.

After just one lap there was a leading group of five riders from Guevara to Diogo Moreira, Deniz Öncü was the fastest rider on track.

With 18 laps to go Guevara and Deniz Öncü broke away from the rest of the field, they had 0.9s gap to Garcia in third place. Ayumu Sasaki was in fifth place, Dennis Foggia was in eighth place, both Ayumu and Foggia were in the hunt for a top three 2022 championship finish.

Lower down the field there was a large battle going on for fifth place from Sasaki to outside of the points. Tatsuki Suzuki was given a long lap penalty due to exceeding track limits, the Leopard rider was down in 16th place.

Guevara and Öncü extended their lead at the front of the race by two seconds with 11 laps to go, Garcia was in third place with Ivan Ortola in fourth place, the next group of riders were three seconds behind.

Scott Ogden crashed out turn six with nine laps remaining to the race. A lap later Taiyo Furusato also crashed out at turn six.

Seven laps remaining to the race and Deniz Öncü was sitting behind Guevara, the Turkish rider looked comfortable following the 2022 champion, just binding his time to make a move for the first place.

Xavier Artigas crashed out at turn six with five laps remaining to the race. Sasaki caught Ortola and took the fourth place from the Spanish rider. The battle for fourth was heating up a lap later, Foggia took the fourth place; putting the Italian rider in third place in the championship standings.

Deniz Öncü took first place at turn eight on the final lap, it was a run to the finish line between Deniz Öncü and Guevara, Izan got the outside drag to the line and passed the Turkish rider to take the victory, Garcia finished the race in third place to take second place in the championship standings. It was a GASGAS one-two for 2022!
