WorldSBK: Tarran Mackenzie to test the Petronas MIE Racing Honda Superbike
By Luke Newman
The 2021 British Superbike Champion will take part in the Misano WorldSBK test for the Petronas MIE Racing Honda squad.
After both Eric Granado and Hafizh Syahrin suffered injuries in Catalunya, Tarran Mackenzie will be riding the Superbike for the team instead in the Misano test. The Misano test will be taking place on the 11th and 12th of May, where Mackenzie will be the only rider for the team.
This will be Mackenzie’s second time on board a Superbike after his outing on the McAMS Yamaha last season at the British Round of the World Superbike season. Although this will be his first time on board a Honda Superbike.
A statement from the Petronas MIE Racing Honda Team said: “Tarran Mackenzie will take part in the next two-day WorldSBK testing session set to take place on 11-12 May at the Misano World Circuit.”
“The British rider, already competing in the WorldSSP 600 series in the same colours of Midori Moriwaki’s squad, will be the sole rider for the PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda Team, as Eric Granado and Hafizh Syahrin continue to rest and recover following crashes during the recent Catalan WorldSBK Round.”
Mackenzie’s season in World Supersport has not been a great time for the former British Superbike Champion. After four rounds Mackenzie has 15 points and has had a best result of 5th in a wet Phillip Island race.
This test in Misano could be Mackenzie’s first step towards securing a Superbike ride for the 2024 season as there are still so many Superbike seats available for next season.
