David Alonso held off his Moto3 rivals to take a close fought win at Silverstone.
The weather conditions at the British circuit of Silverstone were better for race day, the Moto3 championship started the day’s proceedings with Jaume Masia on pole position, Britain’s fan favourite Scott Ogden lined-up in second place with Daniel Holgado in third place.
Unfortunately Scott stalled his bike on the warm-up lap and had to start the race from the back of the grid, the young Brit had a challenge on his hands for his home race!
Holgado shot off the start line and snatched first place from Masia. Deniz Öncü was leading the race as the field crossed the line at the end of lap one. With 13 laps remaining to the race Masia crashed out at Village, disaster for the young Spaniard! He did rejoin the race but was now at the back of the field.

At the front it was a battle between Diogo Moreira, Holgado and Alonso. A few laps later and Moto3 veteran Romano Fenati was getting in the mix as was Deniz Öncü.
On the final lap Holgado, Alonso and Sasaki were all in the hunt for the win! Sasaki was leading as the front group were in the final sector of the Silverstone circuit, Alonso took the lead at the Hanger Straight and crossed the line to take his first Moto3 victory. Ayumu Sasaki finished in third place, with Holgado taking third place.
