By Dawn Hammersley
Pedro Acosta wins his fifth race win of the season and extends his champion lead.
Celestino Vietti was on pole position for the Moto2 race in Misano, joining the home rider on the front row of the grid was Pedro Acosta in second place with Manuel Gonzalez rounding out the front row in third place.
Acosta got the holeshot into turn one, the Spaniard was riding aggressive for the first few corners, Vietti was in second place with Aron Canet in third place.
Sam Lowes and his team-mate Tony Arbolino had sharp starts running in seventh and eighth place. Jake Dixon was running in 14th place.
The leading trio broke away from the rest of the field after just three laps, Alonso Lopez was just out of touch in fourth place. Dennis Foggia and Zonta Van Den Goorbergh crashed out of the race at turn 14.
With 15 laps to go Acosta had a 0.9s lead from Vietti, Canet crashed out at turn 14, he ran a bit wide as he entered the corner and the front tucked! Unfortunately Canet has had the most crashes in the Moto2 championship this season.
At the half-way stage of the race Vietti was catching Acosta, Britain’s Rory Skinner’s race ended early as he entered the pits with an issue. Dixon wasn’t making any progress in 14th place. Sam Lowes crashed out at turn one, the front end tucked on the Marc VDS rider.
Vietti was struggling with tyre grip in the latter stages of the race allowing Acosta to have a comfortable lead at the front. Arbolino was chasing Lopez for third place, the Italian was just running out of laps to make his move.
Acosta crossed the finish line to take his fifth victory of the season, Vietti finished in second place with Lopez just hanging on to third place, Arbolino was fourth with Ai Ogura finishing in fifth place.
