Fermin Aldeguer takes his fifth Moto2 victory and secures third place in the 2023 championship standings
Home rider Aron Canet qualified in pole position for the Moto2 season finale in Valencia, joining Canet on the front row was Fermin Aldeguer and Marcos Ramirez. Britain’s Jake Dixon, Aron Canet and Fermin Aldeguer are in the hunt for a third place finish in the championship standings.
Fermin Aldeguer lead the pack into turn one, there was an incident at turn four with Izan Guevara, Sergio Garcia and Celestino Vietti, all riders were down and out of the race.
Aldeguer was leading the race from Canet and Ramirez, Pedro Acosta was in ninth place. Jake Dixon was in fourth place with his compatriot Sam Lowes in sixth place.
Four laps in and Acosta was in 13th place, the 2023 Moto2 champion was being beat up on track by various riders. Aldeguer and Canet broke away from the rest of the field after just six laps, the pair had over a two second lead from Ramirez.
There was a four-way battle for third place from Ramirez to Somkiat Chantra. Jake was in fourth place but was coming under pressure from Alonso Lopez. Acosta was still outside the top ten in 12th place.
The leading duo now had over a three second lead at the front. Lopez took the fourth place spot from Dixon and now had Ramirez in his sights. Tony Arbolino was having another lack luster race down in 15th place.
Just past the half-way mark Aldeguer had a two second lead from Canet, Lopez was now in third place after a few harsh moves on Ramirez. Joe Roberts and Denis Foggia were both inside the top ten, Acosta was still in 12th place.
In the latter stage of the final Moto2 race of 2023 Aldeguer extended his lead to over four seconds, it looked like Canet would be finishing in yet another second place, the Spaniard has racked up a total of five second place finishes this season and a total of 15 Moto2 career second place finishes.
Aldeguer crossed the finish line to take his fifth victory; his fourth win on the bounce. Canet finished in second place, Lopez was third, Ramirez finished in fourth place with Chantra finishing in fifth place, Dixon was sixth.
