Ryan Vickers holds off his Yamaha rivals to lead the championship after securing two race wins
For the final installment of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship Kyle Ryde was on pole position with Danny Kent lining up in second place with Glenn Irwin rounding out the front row of the grid.
Kyle Ryde shot off the line to lead the field into turn one, a few riders had an unsettled first few corners. Glenn Irwin got pushed back to 11th place, it was a Yamaha one-two-three again. Fraser Rogers had a massive high side at turn four, fortunately he was up and ok.
Tommy Bridewell was in fourth place chasing the tails of the Yamaha riders. After three laps Vickers was the fastest man on track. The gap from Vickers to Bridewell was just over a second, Leon Haslam was in fifth place.
Bridewell put the hammer down and was catching the leading trio, on lap five of the race he was the fastest man on track. Kent took control of the race at turn one on lap six, the McAMS rider was seeking the team’s first victory.
Rory Skinner had a technical issue and was out of the race. Vickers made a move on his team-mate for second place, Tommy was now with the leading Yamahas. Ryde looked to be losing pace as Bridewell was hot on his heels. Vickers and Kent were swopping places which helped Ryde and Bridewell to join for the battle for first place.
Bridewell got the better of OMG Racing’s Kyle Ryde for third place. Kent was controlling the race ahead of Vickers. Disaster for Honda and Tommy, he had to pull off track with a technical issue! Vickers slid his Yamaha R1 underneath Kent to take back control of proceedings.
With five laps to Haslam was in fourth place keeping up with the leading trio of Yamaha riders. Vickers just looked to be pulling a slight gap on Danny Kent. Dean Harrison lost the front end with just three laps remaining to the race, Charlie Nesbitt was the leading Honda rider in ninth place.
Vickers almost lost the front end at the final corner, he managed to save it and crossed the line to do the double, Kent was second, Ryde crossed the line in third place, Haslam was fourth with Christian Iddon finishing in fifth place.
As the BSB championship heads to Oulton Park for round two of the championship Ryan Vickers is leading the championship standings by six points ahead of Ryde and Kent.
