David Alonso continues his perfect run of form with yet another pole position, joining the championship leader on the front row of the grid was MT Helmet’s Ivan Ortola and Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Jose Antonio Rueda.
Lights out as Alonso lead the Moto3 field into turn one, the following few corners were tight as all the Moto3 riders were bunched up. Ortola was right behind Alonso in second place with Taiyo Furusato in third place.
After two laps the leading duo made a slight break from the rest of the pack. Collin Veijer was in third place and the fastest rider on track edging closer to the leaders Alonso and Ortloa.
The race was red flagged due to a crash between Filippo Farioli and Xabi Zurutuza at turn nine on lap four, both riders were conscious but needed medical attention.
The race was restarted over 11 laps with the riders lining up in their positions on the end of lap three. Alonso lead the pack into turn one, Rueda and Stefano Nepa collided at turn one, both riders were out of the race.
Five riders pulled away after a few corners, from Alonso to David Munoz. Veijer took control of the race after two laps, Furusato made a move for the first place position and made it stick for two corners before Veijer retook the position.
Daniel Holgado was given a double long lap penalty due to causing the crash between Rueda and Nepa.
Alonso was back in control of the race after six laps, the Aspar rider was stretching his lead from Veijer. The flow of the Mugello circuit allowed the leading group to bunch up once again as Collin challenged for the lead once again.
On the final lap Alonso was in the lead from Veijer, the Columbian had a 0.4 second lead from the Dutch rider. Ivan Ortola crashed out at turn 12, whilst running in third place.
Alonso crossed the line to take his fifth victory of the season, Veijer was second with Ryusei Yamanaka finishing in third place, Ortola remounted and managed to cross the line in sixth place.
