BSB: Rory Skinner Wins his First Superbike Race at his Home Round
By Dawn Hammersley
Rory Skinner rode the perfect race in sketchy conditions to take his first ever Superbike victory.
Yesterday’s race winner Tommy Bridewell was on pole position for race two at Knockhill, home rider Rory Skinner was in second place on the grid with Danny Kent in third place. OMG Racing’s Ryan Vickers was declared unfit to race due to an overnight stomach bug. The race was declared a wet race as the Scottish weather purred down!
Bridewell was first into turn one, the first few corners were dicey! Andrew Irwin crashed out on lap one. Skinner took the lead at the end of lap one.
Storm Stacey was in fifth place, these are good conditions for the Staffordshire rider. Christian Iddon was in third place. Glenn Irwin started from last place, the PBM rider was up to 14th place.
Jason O’Halloran crashed out on lap five. Skinner was still leading from Tommy, Danny Kent was in fourth place. Franco Bourne crashed out, another victim of the weather conditions!
Iddon passed Tommy for second place on lap eight, the leading quartet made a break from the rest of the field. Leon Haslam had a mechanical issue and had to retire on lap ten. Bridewell and Kent were swopping positions for third place.
Rory was riding the perfect race at his home circuit, he was the fastest man on track. Charlie Nesbitt and Fraser Rogers were enjoying a battle for sixth place. Kent won the battle for third place and broke away from the Honda rider with just four laps to go.
Disaster for Kent a lap later as he crashed out, promoting Tommy to a podium finish in third place.
Skinner crossed the finish line to take his first BSB victory, Iddon was second, Bridewell was third, Storm finished in fourth place with Nesbitt finishing in fifth place.
