MotoGP: Perfect Pecco Bagnaia at The Dutch TT Takes The First Back-to-Back Double

Francesco Bagnaia dominates the Cathedral of Speed leading from start to finish
Francesco Bagnaia started the Dutch TT from pole position having the most dominant weekend of his career, topping every session and winning the Tissot Sprint. Maverick Vinales started from second position being promoted one place due to Jorge Martin being given a three place grid penalty for impeding Raul Fernandez in Q2, Alex Marquez started in third.
Fabio Di Giannantonio was promoted two places from sixth to fourth due to Martin’s penalty as well as Aleix Espargaro being declared unfit due to suffering an injury to his hand during the Tissot Sprint, Martin was fifth with Marc Marquez started in sixth.
The lights went out and it was Bagnaia who took the holeshot into turn one ahead of Vinales with Martin in third and both Marquez brothers in fourth and fifth. Alex Rins had a massive high side out of turn one.
Martin went up the inside of Vinales at turn eight, he being aggressive to try and not allow Pecco Bagnaia to get away.
Marc Marquez slipped underneath Vinales at turn five on lap two and moved into third place. Rookie Pedro Acosta had moved up into fifth from 11th on the grid.
Marco Bezzecchi crashed at turn five on lap four, a disastrous weekend for the Italian who was so strong at Assen last season.
Di Giannatonio was the second fastest rider on track and closed in on Vinales and Marc Marquez for third and passed Vinales into the GT Chicane.
Di Giannatonio was able to overtake Marquez for third place with Acosta joining Vinales to make it a four-way train for third place.
Enea Bastianini was starting his late race charge and passed Acosta at turn five for sixth place with the podium just up the road.
Di Giannantonio let Marquez through but the confusion meant that Vinales moved into third with Di Giannantonio dropping to sixth.
On lap 21 Bastianini braked alongside Marquez who refused to give it up but was forced to run wide and Di Giannantonio took fifth at turn five but Marquez aggressively passed the Italian at turn six which allowed Acosta to move into sixth, but the VR46 Ducati rider soon repassed the rookie.
Bastianini pulled the classic GT Chicane pass on Vinales to move into the podium places with four laps remaining as they crossed the line.
Acosta lost the front at turn seven on the final lap of the race, crashing out of seventh place and it’ll be the first non-scoring weekend for the rookie.
Pecco Bagnaia crossed the line to complete back-to-back doubles for the first time ever, Martin brought home second place with Bastianini in third.
Marquez finished in fourth after Vinales ran wide at turn 15 and exceeded track limits the Gresini rider didn’t look happy in the box, Di Giannantonio was fifth with Vinales in sixth and Brad Binder took seventh.
