The R&G British Talent Cup provided fans with some remarkable action at the Snetterton 300 as we head towards the middle of the 2024 season.

Free practice and qualifying was all about the man at the top of the championship table. Lucas Brown (SENCAT Talent team – Mortimer Racing) headed both free practice sessions in a confident display that had the other team managers dumbfounded, interestingly this was the first time in 2024 Brown has topped non race sessions. Qualifying gave us a last minute twist as the Sencat rider opted to sit out the latter half of the session held in torrid conditions. Philip Surowiak (RS Racing) produced a blinding final lap to pip Brown to pole position.

Race one held in torrential rain was again a dominant performance from Brown, Whoever prepared the Honda NSF of Browns must surely be on a win bonus as the machine was planted at every turn and apex in what can only be described as masterclass, destroying the opposition by over 20 seconds. Behind Brown we witnessed Surowiak loose the front and another monumental battle for honours with Peter Willis (Microlise Creswell) and top rookie Jack Burrows (Burrows Engineering /RK Racing) head to head in a superb display of mature wet weather racing. Willis came out on top after a stunning last lap which would have made his late team manager John Cresswell proud. Amanuel Brinton (RS Racing) obviously not enjoying the British wet weather struggled home in fourth and Daniel Goodman (Fibre Tech Honda) taking his personal best finish in fifth.

Race two conditions improved but not what we would expect from a July afternoon in the South East. It was Alexander Rowen (SENCAT Talent team – Mortimer Racing) that took a surprise holeshot on lap one, Brinton made the perfect start from 10th on the grid joining the front pack by turn three. The cool track temperature ensured lap times were down as Brinton and Brown stretched a four second gap on the chasing pack. The two championship rivals played cat and mouse for the next 11 laps, the superior handling Sencat machine verses the faster lighter RS machine. Brinton weighed the situation up perfectly on the final lap out dragging Brown across the line to win by half a bike length. Julian Correa (Wilson Racing) grabbed the final podium position after being forced to switch teams due to John Creswell’s passing. An excellent weekend for Bill Harris (RS Racing) was topped by a brilliant seventh place finish.

The R&G Rider Of The Round is awarded to Peter Willis – In difficult circumstances Peter snatched the last second pole position for race one and his first podium. A true grit performance in the spirit of the R&G British Talent Cup.

Next up for the R&G Talent Cup is Brands Hatch 19/20/21 July.
