OMG Racing’s Ryan Vickers delivered a master class victory to take his third win of the season
It’s round six of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at the Kent circuit of Brands Hatch. We have reached the half way of the championship already! OMG Racing’s Ryan Vickers was on pole position for the third time so far this season. Joining Ryan on the front row of the grid was McAMS Yamaha’s Danny Kent and Current championship leader Glenn Irwin.
Lights out as Ryan Vickers lead the field into Paddock Hill Bend, all the riders made it safely through the first corners of the Kent circuit. Ducati’s Christian Iddon had a sharp start making up some important positions.
Josh Brookes held on to his grid starting position in fourth place, the FHO Racing team have made some changes to the Australian’s bike, which seems to be making a difference.
Charlie Nesbitt had a mechanical issue on lap three. Danny Kent crashed out at Stirlings! Which promoted Glenn to second place.
Tommy Bridewell was in third place, on the back wheel of his ex team-mate Irwin. OMG’s Vickers was leading and looking comfortable in first place, he was the fastest man on track in the opening laps.
Bridewell made his move on the PBM rider to run in second place, Tommy now had a job on his hands to catch Vickers, the Yamaha rider was stretching out his lead and still the fastest man on track.
BMW man Leon Haslam was in fifth place and was catching Iddon at the half way stage of the race. Honda’s Andrew Irwin was in sixth place, Kyle Ryde was in seventh place. Danny Buchan and Jason O’Halloran were dicing for eighth place.
Vickers had a five second lead at the front, it was now a three-way battle for second place between Bridewell, Glenn Irwin and Iddon. Andrew Irwin was on the move as he passed Haslam to take fifth place.
The battle for second place was now a four-way battle as Andrew Irwin joined the group and looking to pass his team-mate for third place. The Northern Irish brothers were now with each other and in the hunt for second place.
Vickers crossed the finish line to take his third victory of the season, Bridewell finished in second place, Andrew Irwin was third, Glenn Irwin was fourth with Iddon finishing in fifth place.
Glenn Irwin and Tommy Bridewell are locked in first place on 189 points in the championship standings.
