Moto3: Alonso claims Victory Win in Austria.

By Admin
David Alonso (CF Moto Aspar Team-#80) takes his seventh win of the 2024 Moto3 season, refusing to let his long lap penalty defeat him.
Tuning in to the Motorrad Grand Prix Von Österreich, Joel Kelso(Boé Motorsports) lead first up the hill, followed by Red Bull’s GasGas Tech Daniel Holgado and current Champion David Alonso. After no signs of last rounds winner Iván Ortolá (MT Helmets MSI) due to issues on the Grid, Kelso, Holgado and Alonso got to a flying start. Replays showed Ortolá being escorted off the Grid with a potential stall, the reason for his non start, thus eventually starting from pitlane at the back of the group.
Starting from P6 and being forced to serve a long lap penalty on Lap Three due to slow riding earlier in the weekend, the Columbian (#80) dropped right back down to 10th. This gave the opportunity for Kelso to lead the early parts of the race, along with teammate David Muñoz and rival Holgado. Kelso was given a warning for track limits early on during the race. Kelso, Muñoz and Holgado showed some consistent pace with Muñoz’s competitive side showing as he was all over the back wheel of his teammate. The Ajo KTM rider Jose Antonio Rueda riding in Fourth place, towing Colin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) along on Lap Five, the duo pushing to get a spot within the top three.
Ortolá continued to push through and by the end of Lap 12 managed to enter the point scoring positions, then worked hard to charge into the Top 10 by Lap 14. The Spaniard put in a strong recovery, climbing to Ninth at the finish, but fell behind in the battle for the Championship. Unfortunately Stefano Nepa crashed out leaving disappointment for the LevelUp MTA team.
With Three Laps remaining, Alonso crept back up to the top followed by Muñoz and Holgado with Veijer and Ángel Piqueras (Leopard Racing), but everything came down to the final lap with Alonso leading the pack. Muñoz made a mistake that could’ve cost him a podium as Holgado and Piqueras battled out for second and third position. As these three scrapped for second, Holgado won this fight and aimed to jump in front of Alonso but was unsuccessful.
Alonso crossed the Finish Line, taking his Seventh win of the season so far, Muñoz drafted past Holgado taking the Second podium, Piqueras took Fourth and Veijer finishing up in Fifth.
