Marc Marquez dominates in Aragon to take his first victory of the season

Marc Marquez started on pole position looking to take his first Grand Prix win in 1043 days since the 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Pedro Acosta started from second with Francesco Bagnaia looking to redeem his ninth position in the Tissot Sprint race. Championship leader Jorge Martin started from fourth on the clean side of the grid.

The lights went out and it was Marquez who took the holeshot into turn one ahead of Acosta and his brother Alex Marquez who was passed Martin at turn seven. Pecco Bagnaia spun up at the start and dropped to seventh place.

Miguel Oliveira crashed out at turn 16 from sixth place promoting Pecco one spot. Franky Morbidelli had a good start from ninth and was fifth place at the end of the first lap.

Martin lunged at Acosta at the reverse corkscrew and both riders went off the track and Marc Marquez had a 1.6 seconds lead over Acosta and Alex Marquez was on the back on Martin. Martin then passed Acosta into turn 16 to take second place.

Acosta was struggling and was overtaken by Alex Marquez for third position with the rookie being hounded by Morbidelli, Bagnaia and Brad Binder.

On lap six Fabio Quartararo went down at turn five. Enea Bastianini was behind Jack Miller in a battle for ninth place.

On lap nine Morbidelli made a mistake into turn five and ran wide onto the dirty part of the track and the Italian dropped down to eighth.

On lap 11 Acosta ran wide into the reverse corkscrew and Bagnaia was on the back of the Tech3 Red Bull GASGAS Rider. Bagnaia took fourth from the rookie at turn 16.

On lap 18 Alex Marquez went wide at turn 12, Bagnaia went around the outside at turn 13, the two came together and they both went down! A huge dent in Bagnaia’s championship hopes.

Acosta was back into third place with Binder in fourth and Bastianini was in fifth place.

Marc Marquez crossed the line to win the Aragon Grand Prix ahead of Jorge Martin in second who extends his championship lead to 23 points over Pecco. Acosta took his third podium of the year in third with Binder in fourth and Bastianini rounded out the top five.
