WSSP: Adrian Huertas Increases His Championship Lead.

Aruba.it World Supersport rider Adrian Huertas extends his championship lead in Spain.

Championship leader Adrian Huertas (Aruba.it Racing WorldSSP Team) secured his tenth victory of the season in race 1 as he increased his lead to 55 points ahead of rivals Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) and Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team.)

The 21 year old Spaniard dominated the opening race of the weekend to come home two seconds clear of the field and will be aiming to claim the World Championshipbefore he departs the WSBK paddock at the end of the season to race in Moto2 in 2025. Huertas closest challenger in the Championship, Montella, finished off of the podiumin fourth place and is now level with Manzi after the Italian was able to produce a strong ride to finish second.

Valentin Debise (Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team) moved up to fourth place in the Championship after taking his fifth podium of the season with a fine third place, Jorge Navarro (Orelac Racing Verdnatura) Completed the top five.

Lucas Mahias (GMT94 Yamaha) Qualified second on the grid, but gradually dropped back to eventually 6th infront of Can Oncu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) in seventh. Completing the top 10were; Federico Caricasulo (Motozoo ME AIR Racing) Glenn van Straalen (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) and Bahattin Sofuoglu (MV Agusta Reparto Corse.) Marcel Schrotter is now mathematically out of title contention after finishing in 11th place and dropping to fifth in the championship, 180 points behind Huertas with just 125 points remaining.

Oli Bayliss (D34G Racing) finished in 12th place to take his fourteenth point scoring ride of the season. Claiming the final points, Althea Racing duo Niccolo Antonelli and Piotr Biesiekirski finished in thirteenth and fifteenth with Niki Tuuli (EAB Racing Team) in fourteenth. Shropshire’s Tom Booth-Amos was full of confidence after securing his first WSS podium last weekend and running comfortably in the top 10 in race one before he crashed out of contention on the sixth lap, while John McPhee struggling with a rib injury could only manage 20th in a point-less outing for the British pair.

Tom Edwards, Steven Odendaal, Joan Diaz and Yeray Ruizwere the other riders who failed to finish, while Anupab Sarmoon was declared unfit to start the race after breaking his wrist in practice.
