Moto3: David Alonso Equals Valentino Rossi as the Rider with the Most Victories in the Lightweight Class

Aspar Team’s 2024 Moto3 champion delivers the goods once again in a thrilling Australian Grand Prix
For the Moto3 Qatar Airways Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix MT Helmet’s Ivan Ortola was on pole position, Collin Veijer lined-up in second place, with Leopard Racing’s Adrian Fernandez rounding out the front row of the grid in third place. Britain’s Scott Ogden qualified in fifth place, the MLav rider’s best qualifying of the 2024 season so far. The newly crowned Moto3 champion David Alonso started from the fourth row of the grid in tenth place.
Lights out at Phillip Island as Ortola lead the field into turn one, the first few corners were tight for the Moto3 riders. David Munoz was leading from Stefano Nepa and Ortola. Scott Ogden was running in ninth place.
Home rider Joel Kelso was getting in the mix in the leading group. David Alonso was in fourth place and the fastest rider on track.
After three laps the leading group consisted of six riders. Unfortunately Scott Ogden crashed at turn nine. Joel Kelso was controlling the race at the front of the leading group.
Filippo Farioli crashed out on lap five. There was now a front group of 13 riders after six laps. The moves in the leading group were coming fast and fierce! As Ortola took control of proceedings once again.
David Alonso hit the front as we approached the half-way point of the race, Collin Veijer was joining the front riders in seventh place, bringing his team-mate Tatsuki Suzuki with him.
On lap 12 Veijer and Ortola had contact and both crashed at turn four, Collin rejoined the race in 19th place.
With seven laps to go, Adrian Fernandez hit the front from Alonso and Daniel Holgado. Alonso took the lead with three laps to go and had a 0.4 second gap to Munoz. The battle for a podium finish was on between Fernandez, Holgado and Munoz.
Alonso crossed the line to take his 11th victory of the season, Holgado was second, Fernandez was third, Nepa finished in an outstanding fourth place after a difficult race, Munoz finished in fifth place.
