Moto2: Aron Canet Takes the Moto2 Victory in Thailand as Ai Ogura lifts the 2024 Championship Title

Aron Canet takes his third victory of the season after dominating the race from the start
For the Moto2 PT Grand Prix of Thailand MT Helmets Ai Ogura was on pole position, Fantic Racing’s Aron Canet qualified in second place with Italtrans Racing’s Diogo Moreira rounding out the front row of the grid.
Ogura got the holeshot into turn one, Canet made a move for the lead just as chaos hit at turn five, Tony Arbolino was taken out by Fermin Aldeguer!
It was a hectic few laps for the front group, things settled as Canet was leading from Marcos Ramirez, Britain’s Jake Dixon was in third place.
Ogura was in sixth place, that’s where the MT Helmets rider needed to finish to take the 2024 Moto2 championship.
There was a five way battle for third place, from Dixon to Albert Arenas. Ogura barged Darryn Binder off track on lap eight. Unfortunately Binder crashed out of the race a lap later at turn eight.
Dixon had dropped to eighth position, Ogura was now in the podium spot in third place. Canet was still controlling proceedings at the front of the field.
Ogura was the fastest man on track and very much in the hunt for the victory, the 2024 championship title was in the Japanese rider’s hands for sure.
Rain started to fall at the final corners of the Chang International circuit with six laps to go. Ogura was in second place, just two seconds behind the race leader Canet. Home rider Somkiat Chantra was in fourth place to the delight of the Thailand fans.
The race was red flagged due to rain falling in all parts of the circuit, Canet takes his third victory of the season, Ogura finished in second place and takes the 2024 title Japan’s first champion since Hiroshi Aoyama in 2009, Ramirez was third, Chantra finished in fourth, Moreira finished in fifth place.
MT Helmet’s MSI took their first World Championship title and also in their debut season in Moto 2. Boscoscuro after being in the Moto 2 championship since it began in 2010 finally took their first title, ending Kalex’s 11 year dominant run.
