MotoGP: Marc Marquez Survives Manic Opening Lap to take Tissot Sprint Victory in Texas

By Jack Hammersley
Marc Marquez makes it five wins out of five despite a near crash and battle with Pecco Bagnaia
It had been tricky conditions all weekend at the Circuit of the Americas but the King of COTA wasn’t phased as Marc Marquez made it a hat-trick of pole positions, his eighth at the circuit. Fabio Di Giannantonio started in second with Alex Marquez starting from his third front row start of the season. Pedro Acosta was top KTM in fourth with Franky Morbidelli fresh from his podium in Argentina in fifth and Francesco Bagnaia starting in sixth.
The lights went out and it was Bagnaia who lead into turn one, but Marquez who cut back and cut Pecco’s nose off into turn two but the Italian responded at turn three and then Marc took the lead back at turn seven. Marc then had a near highside through turn 17 and by the end of the lap Marc and Alex Marquez lead Bagnaia across the line.
Fabio Quartararo was up to fourth place, Acosta and Morbidelli made contact at turn 11 with Morbidelli being fifth while Acosta was behind Joan Mir in eighth.
By lap four Marc had a 0.6 second gap over Alex with Pecco 1.4 seconds behind Alex Marquez. Quartararo lost the front into turn 15 but saved it and Morbidelli inherited fourth place and they were 1.2 seconds behind Pecco.
Mir was on the back of Di Giannantonio in sixth who was also with Morbidelli and Quartararo and was the third fastest on track, but his race came to an end at turn 15 when he lost the front.
Di Giannantonio overtook Quartararo into turn seven on lap six to move inside the top five.
Di Giannantonio showed a wheel to Morbidelli at turn eight and forced Morbidelli to have a poor exit out of turn nine so Di Giannantonio moved into fourth and Quartararo took advantage and also passed Morbidelli. The two former team-mate passed each other throughout the rest of the lap with the Italian emerging in-front.
Marco Bezzecchi was trying to salvage a poor weekend in Texas and moved into ninth place passing Brad Binder into turn 11 on lap eight but the Italian ran wide at turn 12 and the South African retook the place.
Bezzecchi was then fighting with Ai Ogura to be the top Aprilia and the last spot in the top ten although they were putting Binder under pressure for the final points.
Marc Marquez took a hat-trick of Tissot Sprint’s in 2025 with Alex Marquez in second and Pecco Bagnaia in third for third consecutive time also. Di Giannantonio finished in fourth ahead of team-mate Morbidelli in fifth. Quartararo was sixth ahead of Acosta in seventh. Luca Marini took his first Tissot Sprint points of the season and Ogura won the battle for the final points paying position in ninth and Bezzecchi rounded out the top ten.
