Jose Antonio Rueda dominates the Grand Prix of the Americas to take his second victory of the season
The Circuit of the Americas set the scene for the third round of the Moto3 Championship. David Munoz was on pole position for the first time in 2025. Joining the Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP rider on the front row of the grid was Maximo Quiles and Australian rider Joel Kelso.
Adrian Fernandez had a technical issue in pit lane and had to start the race at the back of the grid.
Quiles got the holeshot into turn one, all safe around the first few corners. Alvaro Carpe was in second place with Jose Antonio Rueda in third place.
Poleman Munoz was in fourth place, followed by Kelso in fifth. Fernandez’s issues got even worse; he had a jump start and was handed two long lap penalties.
The championship leader Rueda took charge of proceedings after two laps. Riccardo Rossi crashed out of the race in the last sector of the circuit.
Munoz crashed out at turn one on lap four. The leading group now consisted of six riders behind Rueda, who was checking out at the front.
Luca Lunetta crashed out heavily at turn 18 on lap five, whilst running in seventh place. There was a three-way battle for fourth place as the first three riders were spread out at the front. Kelso was now in second place, just in front of teammate Matteo Bertelle.
Rueda had a two second lead at the front at the half-way stage of the race. Stefano Nepa crashed out at turn 17, Britain’s Scott Ogden pulled into the pits, the CIP Green Power rider was feeling very second hand after his crash in qualifying yesterday.
The battle for eleventh came to an end as Ryusei Yamanaka and Valentin Perrone came together and both crashed out, handing the position to Cormac Buchanan.
There was a six-way battle for seventh place with Dennis Foggia at the head of the group with Buchanan at the tail.
Rueda crossed the finish line to take the Moto3 victory, Kelso finished in second place, Bertelle was third, Anqel Piqueras was fourth with rookie Quiles finishing in a strong fifth place on his Grand Prix debut.
