WSBK: Nicolo Bulega Holds Off Toprak Razgatlioglu to Take the Race One Victory at Cremona.

By Zach Curtis
Bulega’s pace was just too much for his BMW rival Toprak.
After a disappointing Dutch round for Nicolo Bulega, which saw the Italian heartbreakingly retire from both Sunday races with mechanical failures. The Italian bounced back in style to secure his fifth win of the season eventually beating his closest rival in the championship Toprak Razgatioglu by 2.8 seconds.
Completing the podium was Bulega’s team-mate at Aruba.IT racing, Alvaro Bautista who scored his seventh podium of the season. Less than four seconds covered the battle from 4th-12th at the flag, though it would be home hero Andrea Iannone that prevailed in this race long battle to score his first best result since the opening round of the season in February.
Xavi Vierge equalled Honda’s best result of the season in fifth, one place ahead of Remy Gardner who continued his recent strong form and was first Yamaha home in 6th place. Last year’s triple race winner at Cremona, Danilo Petrucci could only recover to 7th place after qualifying a disappointing 13th. Completing the top 10 were; Michael Van der Mark, Axel Bassani and Scott Redding with Lowes’ twins Alex and Sam finishing 11th and 12th. Behind the leading groups, Dominique Aegerter, Yari Montella and Garrett Gerloff secured the final points.
Ryan Vickers just missed out on a point in 16th, one place further back was Bahattin Sofuoglu. Pata Maxus Yamaha duo Andrea Locatelli and Jonathan Rea both suffered off’s and left empty handed in 18th and 19th.
Petronas Honda’s Zaqhwan Zaidi completed the finishers in 20th position. Iker Lecuona was the only rider to crash out of the race, and did so while in a strong 4th place which won’t quieten the rumours of HRC looking to replace him in 2026. Taz Mackenzie suffered a broken exhaust, while mechanical issues also ended the races for Tito Rabat and returning wild card rider Gabriele Ruiu.
