
Moto3: David Munoz Takes Maiden Grand Prix Victory at the GoPro Grand Prix of Aragon

David Munoz wins at Aragon after a last lap battle with Max Quiles
Motorland Aragon is the host for round three of the Moto3 championship. Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Jose Rueda was on pole position, with Sic58 Squadra Corse’s Luca Lunetta lining up in second place, CFMoto Viel Aspar Team’s Max Quiles rounded out the front row of the grid.
Lights out at the Motorland circuit as Rueda lead the Moto3 field into turn one, the first few corners were clean for all the riders, until Stefano Nepa and Vincente Perez crashed out at turn nine on the first lap.
David Munoz was in third place with Quiles just in front of him, chasing Rueda for the lead. David Almansa joined the leading group after three laps.
The leading quartet were just breaking away from Alvaro Carpe who was running in fifth place. Joel Kelso was the fastest rider on track whilst in eighth place. Rueda was upping the pace at the front and looking very comfortable leading the race.
Lunetta made his way into fifth place and was bridging gap to the leaders, bringing Carpe and Kelso with him. Jacob Roulstone had a technical issue and had to retire from the race on lap six. Munoz and Quiles were dicing for second place, Quiles lost out and went down the order to seventh place after running wide.
Scott Ogden was making progress in 11th place, just trying to catch the leading group. Rueda was dictating the pace at the front as the drama was unfolding behind him, Lunetta and Munoz were trading places at every opportunity.
On lap 12 Lunetta took control and was leading the race, Rueda was pushed back to fourth. Almansa was in second place, with Quiles in third, things were hotting up!
Final lap time with 11 riders all fighting for the victory, Quiles was leading until Munoz made a move for the lead, Quiles retook the position. Munoz kept his cool and made the pass at the final corner to lead and crossed the finish line in first place, Quiles was second, Carpe was third, Almansa was fourth with Lunetta finishing in fifth place, Rueda only managed to cross the line in eighth place.
