
MotoGP: Marc Marquez Takes Ninth Tissot Sprint Victory of the Season at Assen

Marc Marquez wins the Tissot Sprint race at Assen ahead of Alex Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi
It was the 100th Anniversary of the Dutch TT at Assen, the weather was cloudy but not too chilly. Fabio Quartararo started from his fourth pole position of the season hoping to take his first ever Tissot Sprint victory. Francesco Bagnaia was unable to match his lap record pace from last season but was the top Ducati in second place ahead of Gresini Racing’s Alex Marquez. Marc Marquez had a difficult Friday after suffering two big crashes which caused some bruising to his left elbow and Marco Bezzecchi started from fifth position, his best qualifying of the season.
The lights went out and Quartararo lead into turn one ahead of Marc Marquez and Pecco Bagnaia. Alex Marquez passed Bagnaia into turn eight to move into third.
Into the GT Chicane Marc Marquez overtook Quartararo to take the lead and Alex Marquez followed suit. Bezzecchi also passed Pecco for fourth.
On lap two Bezzecchi passed Quartararo into the GT Chicane to move into third place.
On lap six Fabio Di Giannantonio tried to pass Bagnaia into turn five, but Bagnaia cut back on his fellow Italian. Di Giannantonio passed Pecco into the GT Chicane and made the move stick.
On lap 10 Quartararo lost the front at turn nine and was out of the race, Di Giannantonio moved into fourth and Pecco into the top five.
At the front Marc Marquez was holding off Alex Marquez, Marco Bezzecchi was under half a second behind them.
On the penultimate lap Fermin Aldeguer who was running in seventh was given a long lap penalty for exceeding track limits. Pedro Acosta then received a long lap penalty for track limits too.
Marc Marquez held off his brother take his ninth Tissot Sprint victory of the season with Alex Marquez taking his ninth second place in the sprint and Marco Bezzecchi took his first sprint podium since Indonesia 2023. Fabio Di Gianntonio finished fourth with Pecco Bagnaia taking fifth, Maverick Vinales was top KTM in sixth, Aldeguer was seventh, Franky Morbidelli was eighth and Pedro Acosta took the last points paying position in ninth.
