
MotoGP: Marc Marquez Ties Giacomo Agostini with 68th Career Premier Class Grand Prix Victory at Assen

Marc Marquez takes his sixth double of the season and extends his championship lead
It was the 75th Dutch Grand Prix at Assen and the 100th Anniversary of the Dutch TT. Fabio Quartararo started from pole position running in 70th Anniversary of Yamaha livery and looked to rectify his crash in the Tissot Sprint. Francesco Bagnaia finished fifth in the Sprint and had his sights set to take his second victory of the season and fourth consecutive Grand Prix at Assen, Alex Marquez was second in the sprint and started from the tail of the front row in third. Marc Marquez took his ninth Sprint victory of the season despite two big crashes on Friday and aimed to take his sixth double of the season.
The lights went out and Pecco Bagnaia took the holeshot into turn one ahead of Alex Marquez and Marc Marquez. Miguel Oliveria and Ai Ogura came together at turn five and they were both down.
On lap two Marc Marquez block passed his brother Alex into turn one to move into second place. Marco Bezzecchi passed Alex Marquez into the GT Chicane to move into the podium spots.
Pedro Acosta had a great start from the third row and was running in the leading group in fifth place right behind Alex Marquez.
Acosta made his move on Alex Marquez at turn five with the two rubbing each other and the Red Bull KTM rider was into fourth place.
Marc Marquez made a move on Bagnaia at the GT Chicane on lap five to take the lead for the first time. Alex Marquez tried to overtake Acosta at turn five, the two made contact again, they touched again on the straight and Alex Marquez went down!
Fermin Aldeguer had a huge high-side out of turn ten and Joan Mir went down hitting the Gresini Ducati with Fabio Quartararo losing places after taking avoiding action and was down to 13th.
On lap eight Bezzecchi block passed Pecco into the GT Chicane to move into second place. Acosta then pulled the same move on Pecco the following lap.
On lap 14 Bagnaia overtook Acosta into the GT Chicane to retake third place with Marquez and Bezzecchi starting to pull away.
On lap 15 Maverick Vinales made a block pass on Franky Morbidelli at turn eight to move into fifth place.
On lap 21 Morbidelli had a long lap penalty for cutting the GT Chicane and he completed it on lap 22 and rejoined in seventh place.
Marc Marquez held off Bezzecchi take his first Grand Prix victory at Assen since 2018. Pecco Bagnaia finished in third place ahead of Acosta in fourth and Vinales rounded out the top five.

Marc Marquez leads the championship on 307 points with Alex Marquez 68 points behind and Pecco Bagnaia is 126 points behind.
