Danny Kent battles the elements of Knockhill to get a fourth place.

Round 4 of the 2025 Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Knockhill was an encouraging weekend for McAMS Racing and Danny Kent, who achieved a season-best result of fourth and moved up to seventh in the championship standings.

A wet weekend in Scotland began with a demanding Friday at the 1.2-mile circuit. Despite difficult conditions, the McAMS-backed rider secured direct entry into Qualifying 2 with an overall seventh-place finish at the end of the opening day. Saturday’s Qualifying session saw Kent finish in tenth, earning a place on the fourth row of the grid ahead of Race 1.

An unfortunate start to the opening race of the weekend saw Kent slip back to 20th, after his efforts to push through the field on Lap 1 were affected by a separate incident up the road.

Refusing to give up, the Yamaha R1 rider fought through to 12th, making up an impressive eight positions to cross the line within the points.

However, the team’s hard work began to pay off on Sunday. Kent finished in second place in the morning warm-up session, providing a boost of confidence ahead of Race 2.

Starting 11th on the grid, Kent made significant progress through the field, fighting his way into the points and securing his best result of the season with a strong fourth-place finish. He came close to a podium, pushing Tommy Bridewell hard for third in the later laps. Thanks to this impressive performance, the rider from Tetbury lined up on the front row for Race 3, putting himself in a prime position to challenge for a podium.

In what proved to be the most testing conditions of the weekend, two separate red flag incidents caused delays and led to a revised 16-lap sprint to the finish.

Struggling with grip and unable to find a consistent feeling on the bike, Kent slipped back to 12th at the chequered flag, ending the weekend with some frustration. Nonetheless, the team heads into Round 5 at Brands Hatch with renewed confidence in their ability to fight at the front. With a climb to seventh in the overall standings, Kent and McAMS Racing are hopeful of continued progress in the coming rounds.

Danny Kent McAMS Racing, Rider: “Knockhill was another mixed weekend for us. Heading into it, I felt confident after a solid test there the week before, but for one reason or another, I couldn’t match my times from testing. In Race 1, I was unlucky and got caught up in another rider’s crash, which pushed me down to 20th by the end of lap one. I managed to fight my way back up to 12th. Race 2 was a wet one. Starting P11 on the grid was never going to be easy, but I’d felt strong in the wet all weekend. I had a great race, making my way up to 4th, narrowly missing out on the podium and earning a front-row start for Race 3. I had high expectations for Race 3 after the pace I showed in Race 2, but I just had no grip at all. It was really frustrating and disappointing. We’ll keep working hard and look to turn things around at Brands Hatch.”

Tim Martin McAMS Racing, Team Owner: “Plenty of positives to take from a challenging weekend. Friday was wet and tricky, and on Saturday we couldn’t quite get the setup dialled for Danny, he finished 12th in Race 1. Sunday showed what we’re capable of. He was second fastest in warm-up, then fought from 11th to an impressive fourth in Race 2, battling with Tommy (Bridewell) and showing real podium pace. That result earned us a front-row start for Race 3. Unfortunately, a suspected rear tyre issue meant we dropped back to 12th again. It was a frustrating end, but overall, we felt pleased to be in the mix with the front-runners, and that’s a big step forward. We’ll take the momentum into the next round.”
