Marc Marquez takes victory in Czechia as Pedro Acosta and Enea Bastianini take their first podiums of the season
MotoGP returned to Brno for the first time since 2020, Francesco Bagnaia started from pole position for the first time this season after having to go through Q1. Marc Marquez started in second after crashing at the end of the Q2 session with Fabio Quartararo rounding out the front row while Alex Marquez started in eighth place. Reigning MotoGP World Champion Jorge Martin was back and started the Tissot Sprint in 12th. Franky Morbidelli, Maverick Vinales and Somkiat Chantra were not racing due to being declared unfit.
The lights went out and Pecco Bagnaia got a perfect launch into turn one and lead the pack out of turn two. Marc Marquez attacked Bagnaia into turn three and made the move stick.
At the end of the first lap the two factory Ducati’s lead the way with Pedro Acosta in third ahead of Quartararo. Martin was up to seventh and Enea Bastianini was in eighth. Alex Marquez was down in 19th place.
Augusto Fernandez and Takaaki Nakagami went down at turn three on lap two. Bastianini by the end of lap two was up to fifth after overtaking Martin, Raul Fernandez and Marco Bezzecchi. Bezzecchi had a moment with Quartararo trying to overtake the Frenchman at turn ten.
On lap five Bezzecchi and Fernandez started to battle with Fernandez getting the better of his fellow Aprilia rider.
Bagnaia let Acosta through and was then overtaken by Bastianini and Quartararo. Marc Marquez then let Acosta through on the following lap. They must have had tyre pressure problems.
Fabio Di Giannantonio went down at turn 11 on lap five. Bezzecchi then passed Bagnaia at turn 11 for fifth place on lap seven.
On the penultimate lap Bezzecchi passed Quartararo into turn one to move into fourth, Marc Marquez was right on the back of Acosta trying to increase his tyre pressure.
Marquez took the lead at turn nine and pulled the pin, Bezzecchi was now on the back of Bastianini as they started the final lap.
Marc Marquez crossed the line to win the first Tissot Sprint at Brno ahead of Acosta and Bastianini. Bezzecchi finished in fourth with Quartararo in fifth, Fernandez overtook Pecco on the last lap for sixth, Johann Zarco was eighth and Pol Espargaro filling in for Maverick Vinales finished ninth ahead of Brad Binder for tenth.
