
MotoGP: Marc Marquez Takes his First Ever Victory at the Red Bull Ring in the Tissot Sprint

Marc Marquez makes it a twelfth Tissot Sprint win with Pecco Bagnaia forced to retire
Marco Bezzecchi took his first pole position since the 2023 Indian Grand Prix and Aprilia’s first at the Red Bull Ring. Alex Marquez started from second on the grid with Francesco Bagnaia starting in third. Marc Marquez crashed on his second run in qualifying and started from fourth.
The lights went out and Pecco Bagnaia and Fermin Aldeguer spun up and dropped down the order. Alex Marquez lead from his brother Marc with Bezzecchi in third, Pedro Acosta had gained three places to fourth.
On lap two Acosta passed Bezzecchi at turn two-a and set his sights on the Marquez brothers, Bagnaia was down in 14th position. Fabio Di Giannantonio started in 15th and was up to seventh after two laps.
Brad Binder was having his best weekend of the season as he overtook Raul Fernandez for fifth place at turn one. His fellow KTM rider Enea Bastianini also past Aldeguer for eighth place.
On lap eight Pecco Bagnaia retired with a problem, Fernandez also retired on lap nine.
Alex Marquez made a mistake out of turn two-b and his brother took advantage and took the lead into turn three and Alex was unable to respond.
Jorge Martin started in 14th and overtook Fabio Quartararo on the penultimate lap to move inside the top ten.
Marc Marquez took his 12th Tissot Sprint victory of the season and his first win in Spielberg, Alex Marquez took second with Acosta taking third consecutive podium. Bezzcchi from pole was fourth ahead of Binder in fifth, Aldeguer beat Bastianin for sixth, Di Giannantonio was eighth and Johann Zarco took the final point in ninth.
