Bulega and Toprak deliver a thrilling Superpole Race, keeping the championship fight alive
The WorldSBK Superpole Race was under sunny conditions at the Aragon circuit. Ducati’s Nicolo Bulega was on pole position, with Toprak Razgatlioglu and Alex Lowes for company on the front row of the grid.
Lights out for the second time of round ten, Bulega got the holeshot into turn one. Alvaro Bautista got a good start getting into fourth place. Disaster further back as three riders all crashed out! Dominique Aegerter, Tito Rabat and Yari Montella’s race was over.
Toprak took the lead at the end of lap one, the Turkish rider ran slightly wide handing the lead back to Bulega.
The Lowes brothers were dicing for fourth place, Alvaro was putting the hammer down to catch the leading duo.
Toprak got the inside line to retake the lead, there was nothing between the two! Bautista was catching the leaders as Andrea Iannone split the Lowes brothers up for fifth place.
Sam Lowes was on a charge and took the third place spot from Bautista. With seven laps to go the front group was bunched up, Toprak and Bulega weren’t having it all their own way for this race!
Things were getting feisty between the leaders, they were entering corners side-by-side, such respect between each other. Bulega just looked to be more steady aboard his Ducati V4R than Toprak. Bautista retook the third place position from Sam.
The gloves were off on the final lap, there was nothing between Toprak and Bulega. Bulega was leading, Toprak took the lead for two corners, this was going to be fight to the line! Bulega overtook Toprak at the final corner and held on to cross the finish line to take the victory for the first time since Most.
Bautista finished on the podium in third place, Iannone was fourth with Sam Lowes finishing in fifth place, Alex Lowes was sixth.
