Max Quiles snatches the victory on the finish line from David Almansa

Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli was the host to Round 14 of the Moto3 championship. Qualifying got underway with David Almansa taking pole position, Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Brian Uriarte qualified in second place with GRYD Racing’s Joel Kelso rounding out the front row of the grid.

Lights out in Rimini as Almansa lead the field into turn one. Kelso got beat up and lost a few positions as Alvaro Carpe crashed out at turn four, not a good weekend for the Spanish rider.

Turn 14 crashes for Nicola Carraro and Leo Rammerstorfer.

The British riders were running just outside the top ten. Max Quiles was on the charge running in fourth place. The leading group consisted of seven riders, from Almansa to Rico Salmela.

After five laps Quiles was piling on the pressure on Uriarte for second place, Kelso was in fourth place. Almansa was the fastest man on track and looking very comfortable leading the race.

At the half way point of the race, the leading trio of riders had a 2.3s gap to Salmela. Uriarte was still running in second place. Casey O’Gorman was in the second group of riders in ninth place.

Quiles made his move for second place with seven laps to go in the race, both Quiles and Uriarte were on track limit warnings. Quiles was the fastest rider on track and closing in on Almansa.

Almansa was riding defensive on the final lap, Quiles and Almansa were side by side as they approached the finish line, Quiles took the victory, the Aspar rider timed it to perfection!

Almansa finished in second place, Uriarte was third, Matteo Bertelli was fourth, Perrone finished in fifth place.

Quiles now leads the championship standings by 281 points from Almansa.
