
WSBK: Michael Ruben Rinaldi ends FP2 on top, Baz quickest overall

The opening day of track action has finished in Jerez and it’s Team Go Eleven Ducati’s Michael Ruben Rinaldi who ends the day on top. Loris Baz remains top of the combined timesheets ahead of Jonathan Rea who both failed to improve on their best lap times in the hotter FP2 session.
Michael Ruben Rinaldi’s blistering FP2 time put him third in the overall classification ahead of Alvaro Bautista and 2019 British Superbike Champion, Scott Redding.
The second Aruba.it Racing Ducati of Chaz Davies is sixth ahead of round one winner Toprak Razgatlioglu and Pata Yamaha team-mate Michael van der Mark.
Second Honda of Leon Haslam wrapped up day one in ninth with KRT’s Alex Lowes completing the top ten.
In another impressive showing by the GRT Yamaha Junior team, Garrett Gerloff and Federico Caricasulo end their first day back in 11th and 12th ahead of WorldSBK champions Tom Sykes and Marco Melandri.
Eugene Laverty had a much improved FP2, putting his BMW S1000RR inside the top 12. Laverty ended the day 15th on combined timings ahead of Maximilian Scheib, who also jumped inside the top ten on his final lap in FP2.
Leandro Mercado and Xavi Fores ended the day 17th and 18th with Sandro Cortese and Christophe Ponsson competing the top 20.
The bottom half of the timesheets were completed by Takumi Takahashi, Lorenzo Gabellini and Sylvain Barrier.
The Practice times don’t count towards qualifying, and will continue on Saturday morning at 09:00 before Superpole at 11am. Race one kicks off under the Spanish sun at 14:00 local time.
