
WSBK: PATA Yamaha 1-2 as FP1 comes to a close

Toprak Razgatlioglu and Michael van der Mark have ended the opening free practice session first and second at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.
PATA Yamaha WorldSBK with Rizla riders Toprak Razgatlioglu and Michael van der Mark have set the early practice in Portugal, topping free practice one in Portimao. Razgatlioglu stormed to the top of the timesheets with a 1:42.103, +0.619s faster than his team-mate.
Jonathan Rea finished the session in third ahead of Michale Ruben Rinaldi and Loris Baz, who will be looking to bounce back from his crash in race two in Jerez.
Scott Redding’s first race weekend at Portimao ended with a sixth place finish as he aims to extend his championship lead this weekend. Chasing the 27-year-old was 0.2s clear of former championship leader, Alex Lowes.
Leon Haslam went provisional fastest early in the opening practice of the weekend, but later slipped to eighth, finishing as top Honda and ahead of BMWs Tom Sykes.
Chaz Davies returned to the podium in Jerez, but struggled to carry his form into free practice one. The Welshman rounded out the top ten, +1.446s off Razgatlioglu’s blistering time.
Garrett Gerloff continues to impress in his rookie season, finishing 11th ahead of Alvaro Bautista and Eugene Laverty. Sandro Cortese and second GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Junior rider, Federico Caricasulo completed the top 15.
World Superbikes returns to track action this afternoon, with FP2 coming from Portimao at 15:00.
