Ducati Team’s Andrea Dovizioso says he is fortunate to “have a day of testing in Misano” after battling to seventh and to the championship lead in the first of two Misano events.

The Austria winner has struggled to adapt his riding style and the set up of his number 04 Ducati to the 2020 rear tyre, only picking up one sole podium (Jerez) to go with his win in Austria.

The Ducati rider crossed the line in Misano down in a lowly seventh, after finishing sixth there last season, after a lonely race on the Adriatic coast.

Dovizioso started by saying: “It was a tough race. Since I was starting from the back, I struggled a lot to find the rhythm at the beginning. I still can’t be as competitive as I would like with these tyres and the riding style I’ve always adopted in the past years is not working right now.

The experienced Italian, who is still without a ride for 2021, quickly turned his attention to Tuesday’s test: “Fortunately, this Tuesday, we will have a day of testing here in Misano, which will be very important to try to solve this aspect“.

The Italian finished by commenting on the nature of the 2020 championship, a year that sees Dovizioso on top after finishing inside the top five in three of the first six races. The championship this year is weird, and now we are leading the standings. We have to see the positive side of the current situation and continue to work, putting all our effort to come back stronger in the next races. I congratulate Pecco on his great performance today.”

Dovi will be back on track for the official IRTA test in Misano, before taking to the track for free practice one on Friday morning at 09:55 local time.
