Moto3: Masia Leads Arenas in FP3; Ogura, Arbolino in Q1
By Short Shift News
Jaume Masia has ended the third and final free practice session on top ahead of Albert Arenas and Jeremy Alcoba.
Masia, who has to take a double long lap penalty on Sunday, stormed to the top of the timesheets with a 1:47.398, over half a second clear of Arenas.
Jeremy Alcoba and Gabriel Rodrigo round out the top five with Deniz Öncü backing up his strong Friday performance in fifth.
Andrea Migno rescued a difficult Friday to jump up to sixth fastest ahead of leading Red Bull KTM AJO rider Kaito Toba. Sergio Garcia was eighth ahead of European Grand Prix winner and 2021 Moto2 rider, Raul Fernandez.
Celestino Vietti joined Migno inside the top 14. The Italian set the 10th fastest time, +0.712s off Masia’s top time.
Dennis Foggia, another rider who has a double long lap on Sunday, was 11th with Ayumu Sasaki leading Barry Baltus and Yuki Kunii.
It was a bad Saturday morning for championship contenders Ai Ogura and Tony Arbolino who ended free practice three down in 15th and 22nd. They will have to go through Q1 and will be joined by the likes of John McPhee, Romano Fenati, Tatsuki Suzuki, Alonso Lopez and Darryn Binder – so a spot in Q2 isn’t a foregone conclusion.
Qualifying gets underway at 12:35 local time.
