WSBK: Jonathan Rea Takes Victory In The Action Packed Superpole Race At Catalunya.

Rea Wins His Sixth Superpole Race Of The 2021 season.

The front row of the grid for the Superpole race saw BMW’s Tom Sykes in Pole Position, PATA Yamaha’s Toprak Razgatlioglu in second place and Kawasaki’s Jonathan Rea in third place. Reigning 2020 World Superbike Champion Rea re-took the Championship lead after Race One Yesterday, there is just six points between Rea and Toprak, Ducati’s Scott Redding is keeping his Championship Title hopes alive after yesterday’s Race One victory.

It was perfect weather conditions for the Superpole Race. As the lights went out it was PATA Yamaha’s Toprak in first place into Turn One at the Barcelona Circuit, Scott Redding had a lightening start and got into second until Rea snatched second place. BMW’s Tom Sykes and Michael Van der Mark had a coming together on the first lap, resulting in both riders crashing out.

Rea took first place off Toprak in Turn one, but Toprak re-took the position at Turn Two. Yamaha’s Andrea Locatelli was catching the leading trio after three laps. On lap four the race was Red Flagged due to Team Goeleven’s Chaz Davies and Kawasaki Puccetti Racing’s having a coming together at Turn 11. The grid would be formed from the riders finishing positions based on standings at the end of the last completed time keeping point for each rider, the race distance would now be a five-lap dash.

As the race was re-started Toprak led the way into Turn One, Toprak and Rea almost had a coming together on the start-straight. Honda’s Alvaro Bautista had a flying start and got into third place. Toprak and Rea were battling for first position, having moments all over the track! lower down Locatelli clipped the back tyre of Alex Lowes, causing Locatelli’s YZF R1 to flip into Nozane’s path, which caused Scott Redding to go off track, putting the Brit down in last place.

With three laps to go Rea was in first place, Toprak was second and Lowes got up-to third, Bautista took third place from Lowes on the final lap. Toprak was closing in on Rea, could the Turkish rider snatch first place! Toprak just wasn’t close enough to make the move!

Rea won his sixth Superpole race of the 2021 season, Toprak had to settle for second, Bautista took his and Honda’s first podium of the season in third place, Lowes was fourth, Rinaldi finished in fifth place. Scott finished out of the points down in 15th place, Scott will start Race two from 11th place on the grid.

Jonathan Rea extends his Championship lead to nine points over Toprak, Scott has work to do in Race Two. The front Row for Race Two will be Rea, Toprak and Bautista. Race Two is today at 2:15.
