
Moto3: Jose Antonio Rueda Wins the Motul Grand Prix of the Netherlands

Rueda continues his Moto3 dominance after a hectic race around the Assen circuit
The cathedral of Speed in the Neitherlands was the host to round ten of the Moto3 championship. Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Jose Antonio Rueda was on pole position for the fourth time this year, Rueda’s team-mate Alvaro Carpe qualified in second place, with Leopard Racing’s David Almansa rounding out the front row of the grid in third place.
It was perfect weather conditions as the lights went out at Assen, Rueda lead the field around turn one. Disaster for Guido Pini as he stalled on the start line, the young Italian’s race was over before it started.
All riders were through the first corners safely, Rueda was leading from Almansa. Carpe had contact with a fellow rider, which put him down the order to 18th. The fastest rider on track was Max Quiles running in second place.
David Munoz joined the party in third place, Britain’s Scott Ogden was moving up the order. Rueda managed to do a clean lap, which enabled the KTM rider to lead with a slight gap to Quiles. It didn’t last long with the nature of the Assen circuit, Almansa and Quiles were on the back wheel of Jose!
Mlav Racing’s Leonardo Abruzzo crashed out at sector four. On lap nine knee slidders were flying off due to contact between two riders, things were heating up at the sharp end!
With eight laps to go Quiles was leading from Ryusei Yamanaka, Rueda was down in seventh place. Disaster for Cormac Buchanan and Nicola Carraro as they crashed out at sector four, the incident was being investigated by the racing stewards.
Mlav Racing’s Eddie O’Shea crashed out, no fault of his own the young Brit got caught up in Tatchakorn Buasri’s crash!
Quiles crashed out at sector three, Almansa was forced wide further down the order, he was now in 13th place. Rueda had regrouped and was back leading the race. Chaos at the final corner on the last lap involving Lunetta, Fernandez and Furusato, they all went down!
The race was Red Flagged due to the incident at the final corner, Rueda won the race, David Munoz was second, Valentin Perrone finished in third place, Carpe was fourth with Angel Piqueras finishing in fifth place. Scott Ogden finished in seventh place, best placed finish in the dry for the British rider.
