Ryan Vickers takes victory in a shortened opening race of the weekend at Brands Hatch

Tommy Bridewell started the first race of the weekend from pole position on the BeerMonster Ducati. Alongside the Championship leader on the front row was Ryan Vickers and Josh Brookes.

It was Bridewell who got the holeshot at the start of the race as he stormed into the lead with Vickers and Danny Kent close behind. Kyle Ryde and Brookes made disastrous starts and dropped down the order.

Vickers took the lead early on from Bridewell with Kent following Vickers and taking second place off the Ducati rider. As the race went on Bridewell found himself slipping further back through the order.

With one Ducati going backwards another was finding his way forward, MotoRapido rider Christian Iddon was up for the challenge today and found himself in the podium positions as he took third place.

Storm Stacey may have started in 20th place on the grid but the youngster found his feet early on in the race and made up early ground. By the end of lap seven the Kawasaki rider made his way up to eighth place in the order.

Midway through the eighth lap the red flag was shown around Brands Hatch. However, this was not because of the conditions but instead due to fluid coming out of the ROKiT BMW Motorrad bike of Leon Haslam.

With the race being red flagged the officials decided that the race was unable to be restarted. This meant that half points were given to the riders.

The official result saw Ryan Vickers on top of the podium for the first ever time in BSB with Danny Kent and Christian Iddon completing the rostrum.

Josh Brookes dropped all the way back to 13th and Kyle Ryde was back in 15th place when the red flagged was waved!
