In a hectic race one at Most Jonathan Rea took advantage of the mixed conditions and took his first win of the 2023 season.

Toprak Razgatlioglu started from pole with Danilo Petrucci and Remy Gardner alongside him on the front row. The championship leader, Alvaro Bautista, started a long way back in 14th place on the grid.

There was a a mismatch of tyres selected on the grid with some riders opting for wet tyres and some riders gambling with intermediate tyres. As it turned out the riders who selected the intermediate tyres were the outright winners.

In the early stages of the race it was the riders on wet tyres who took the early lead. However, quickly after the likes of Jonathan Rea, Toprak Razgatlioglu and Danilo Petrucci, who all selected inters were passing the riders on wet tyres as the track dried out.

Many riders dived into the pits throughout the race for slick tyres, including the championship lead Bautista! The riders who were still on inters gapped the pitting riders and as the order settled Rea took a solid lead and had Razgatlioglu, Petrucci and Scott Redding chasing him down.

As the race panned out Rea proved to still have the ability to take race wins as he used his years of experience to control the gap and take his first win of the 2023 season.

Razgatlioglu held his own throughout the race and finished in second place to close down the gap to Bautista in the championship.

Danilo Petrucci crossed the line in third place to claim his second podium in WorldSBK as he beat Redding who finished fourth.

Championship leader Bautista did not have the race he would have hoped for as he crossed the line in a lonely 12th place!
