WorldSBK: Toprak Razgatlioglu sprints to victory in the Superpole Pole
By Luke Newman
After claiming victory in yesterdays race Toprak Razgatlioglu battled for victory in this mornings Superpole Race.
Garrett Gerloff lined up on pole position once again from Alvaro Bautista and Michael Ruben Rinaldi, just like yesterday. But as the lights went out the two Ducati riders blasted passed Gerloff, as the Texan dropped back to fifth.
Jonathan Rea and Toprak Razgatlioglu passed the American as well as they moved up from the second row of the grid.
The disaster struck for Gerloff as he was cleared out on the opening lap of the race as Scott Redding knocked the Bonovo BMW rider and himself out of the race. Redding was then given a Long Lap Penalty for the incident, despite already being back in 23rd place.
On the second lap Razgatliogliu passed Rinaldi for second and then made a move on Bautista for the lead. The little Spaniard was not having it and put up a fight, but the Turkish rider showed more commitment and chopped the World Champions nose and retook the lead.
Rinaldi passed Razgatlioglu on the third lap to push the Yamaha rider back to second place, just in front of Bautista.
Razgatlioglu slides in front of Bautista and Rinaldi pushing Rinaldi into the path of Bautista. The two Ducati riders collided bringing Rinaldi down, allowing Rea to slide into second. However, Bautista stayed upright and the Spaniard was back in third.
Razgatlioglu cleared out after the Ducati riders collided as he took the opportunity to break the field. After the collision Bautista managed to get back into a rhythm and got an important second place finish. Jonathan Rea claimed another third place finish this weekend as he struggled to match the two riders ahead.
