WorldSBK: Jonathan Rea snatches pole position in mixed conditions in Assen

After a month off from Barcelona the World Superbike paddock sprung back to life in the Netherlands for round three of the season.
After the two Free Practice sessions over Friday Alvaro Bautista led the way on his Aruba.it Racing Ducati ahead of the ROKiT BMW Motorrad rider Toprak Razgatlioglu. After winning last time out in Barcelona will we see Bautista start his charge for the 2024 World Superbike Championship.
Jonathan Rea has had a slow start to the 2024 World Superbike season, but Assen has been a stronghold for the Northern Irishman over the years. The six-time WorldSBK Champion has 17 race wins and 25 podiums at Assen, if Rea is going to get back to his best anywhere it should be at Assen.
HRC have continued their 2024 woes as Iker Lecuona is out of the second day of action in the Netherlands after picking up a knee injury this morning in FP3.
Jonathan Rea bounced back today after a poor opening two rounds as he takes pole position around a drying Assen circuit. The World Superbike veteran takes his fourth pole position around Assen in his World Championship career.
Nicolo Bulega and Toprak Razgatlioglu rounded out the front row for the opening race of the weekend later on today.
The Lowes twins head out the second row of the grid as Sam Lowes starts from fourth place with Alex Lowes starting in fifth place. Remy Gardner rounded out the second row on his satellite Yamaha.
After struggling at the start of the session Alvaro Bautista managed to scrape a lap together at the end of the session and placed himself in seventh on the grid. Former team-mate of Bautista, Michael Ruben Rinaldi, will lineup alongside Bautista in eighth place. Andrea Iannone will round out a Ducati 7-8-9 as he lines up at the back of the third row.
Andrea Locatelli rounds out the top ten. Whilst Tarran Mackenzie lines up in 14th, Scott Redding will start in 15th and Bradley Ray down in 20th.
