WorldSBK: Toprak Razgatlioglu doubles up at Donington Park
By Luke Newman
After dominating the opening World Superbike race of the weekend yesterday Toprak Razgatlioglu doubles up with a victory in the Superpole Race this morning.
Yesterdays opening race at Donington Park Toprak Razgatlioglu dominated as he won by 11 seconds over the rest of the field. With Razgatlioglu back on pole it was almost certain that the Turkish rider would win once again this morning.
After the 10 lap Superpole Race it was once again Razgatlioglu who claimed victory. The former WorldSBK Champion extended his lead of the Championship as he chases his second WorldSBK Championship.
Nicolo Bulega returned to the podium as he finished in second place. The Italian rookie tried to fight off Razgatlioglu in the early stages of the race. However, after three laps the #11 had to settle for second.
It was a return to the box for the home hero Jonathan Rea. The Northern Irish rider has not been anywhere near his former levels this season but a third place at Donington Park is a step in the right direction for Yamaha and Rea.
After losing out on a top five finish yesterday due to a mechanical issue yesterday, Scott Redding, finished in fourth today. Alex Lowes made it a British 3-4-5 as he took his Kawasaki to a fifth place finish, he could not match his second place from yesterday but put in a valiant effort.
Alvaro Bautista finished in sixth place today as he could not take advantage of the late race pace he had yesterday in the full distance race. Andrea Locatelli took a seventh place finish ahead of Sam Lowes in eighth and Danilo Petrucci in the final points position of ninth.
The only other British rider in todays race was Bradley Ray as Tarran Mackenzie had to withdraw from this weekend due to suffering from concussion after yesterdays crash. Ray ended up finishing 19th.
